A Reading from Romans 12: 14, 18-21
Taken from the January Magnificat:
Bless Those who persecute (you), bless and do not curse them. If possible, on our part, live at peace with all. Beloved, do not look for revenge but leave room for the wrath; for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord." Rather, "if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals upon his head. Do not be conquered by evil but conquer evil with good. Romans 12: 14, 18-21
At Mass today, the second reading is taken from the First Letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians 12: 31-13; 13. This reading is the most popular choice for weddings! Here is one sentence from it - Love is patient, love is kind. Just think what a difference these words could make in our day if we practice them rather than just read them. What we give to others is truly what we get back. If we give hatred and condemnation, it is returned to us. If we give love and acceptance that will be returned to us.
For those of us who receive the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ this day, we will be nourished for the journey. And then it will be Jesus who lives in us. He will increase as we decrease! What is impossible for us, is possible for God. Through Him all things exist for good!
God bless!!

January 22, 2010 - Pray for Life!!
Today's Magnificat -
"In all the dioceses of the United State of America, January 22 shall be observed as a particular day of penance for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion, and of prayer for the full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life."
"Openness to life is at the center of true development. When a society moves towards the denial or suppression of life, it ends up no longer finding the necessary motivation and energy to strive for man's true good. If personal and social sensitivity towards the acceptance of a new life is lost, then other forms of acceptance that are valuable for society also wither away. The acceptance of life strengthens moral fiber and makes people capable of mutual help." Pope Benedict XVI
"Though I say to the wicked man that he shall surely die, if he turns away from his sin and does what is right and just, giving back pledges, restoring stolen goods, living by the statutes that bring life, and doing no wrong, he shall surely live, he shall not die. None of the sins he committed shall be held against him; he has done what is right and just, he shall surely live." Ezekiel 33:14-16

St. Agnes - January 21, 2010
St. Agnes, Pray for us!!
"What was the sin of Lucifer, but the resolve to be his own master? What was the sin of Adam, but impatience of subjection, and a desire to be his own god? What is the sin of all his children, but the movement, not of passion merely, not of selfishness, not of unbelief, but of pride, of the heart rising against the law of God, and set on being emancipated from its trammels?" (written by Venerable John Henry Newman, taken from the January Magnificat pg 285)

Choose Life
From today's Magnificat reading -
"I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Choose life, then. (Dt 30:19)
Beside the river that watered the garden of Eden, God offered the first couple the choice between obedient love and self-seeking death. The choice remains ours to make each day."
Choose life that you may live for all of eternity!
God bless!!

The Baptism of the Lord - Sunday Jan 10
Theophany: The Baptism of the Lord, What Does it Mean? - Catholic Online
Sunday January 10 is the feast of The Baptism of the Lord. He who is above all comes down to be below all. He teaches us to love not by being more but rather by being less. God is everything; we are nothing but become everything when we are united in relationship with our God. Come to the Sunday Mass - not as obligation - but to have a relationship with this man Jesus who God has sent to teach us all things. Join with others in this Eucharistic Feast - a small presentation of Heaven on Earth.
God bless!!

Fundamental Truths
Taken from "True Devotion to Mary" by St. Louis DeMontfort - "As there are secrets of nature by which natural operations are performed more easily, in a short time and at little cost, so also are there secrets in the order of grace by which supernatural operations, such as ridding ourselves of self, filling ourselves with God, and becoming perfect, are performed more easily."
