The Captain of My Ship

We all want to be the captain of our own ships. But it's pretty amazing how when things do not go well we blame the Captain of all Ships, our God. What do we do however when there is no God in our lives? Do we then blame ourselves when life goes awry? Can you imagine working on a boat and you are at the wheel and the captain tells you what you should do to keep the boat and everyone on it safe and you decide to do it your way instead? Then you hit the sandbar and blame the captain. He should have been more explicit I guess or you should have followed his directions instead. That's what life is all about - following the guidance of our ever loving God. But the human condition is such that we do our own thing instead and then place blame when it does not go well.

God is pure love and he loves us all whether we love him or not. He sees the whole picture and wants to guide us down the road or through the sea of life. Most of us today do not want to listen to his guidance. We trade infinite happiness for finite happiness and wonder why it doesn't last forever. We give up the pleasures of eternity for the moments of pleasure that we gain on this earth. We listen to the voice of lies rather than to the voice of truth. We can see, feel and touch the lies, but we are insensitive to the truths that lie in moral absolutism. There has never been a society of relativism that has survived. As Dr. Peter Kreeft tells us -  that society will either be the first in history to survive; or that society will repent of its ways and turn to God; or that society will perish. We only have to look at the rise and fall of the Roman Empire to see what happens to a society that believes in abortion, same-sex marriage, and human embryo research. We are sliding down a slippery slope.
God bless!!
