Thanksgiving

How can I repay the Lord for his goodness to me? (Psalm 116:12)

Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. (Phil 4:6)

The making of Adults

Adults may make children but it's really children who make adults. It's in the total unselfish giving of oneself that we truly find our maturity and children demand this of us. As we raise children we find ourselves becoming more loving as they teach us how to love, more forgiving as they teach us how to forgive, more compassionate as they teach us compassion.  We might even become more daring as we watch their adventuresome spirits and we might even desire to become lifelong learners as we watch them learn and grow. We discover that this is really what life is all about - the raising of children from babies to adulthood and part of that process includes raising ourselves. And if we resist, we might find ourselves falling deeper into a dark hole of anger and depression and never attaining the heights of joy that God has planned for us. God bless!!

The sin in our lives

1 John 1:8-10
If we say, "We are without sin," we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we acknowledge our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from every wrongdoing. If we say, "We have not sinned," we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

Recognizing our own sins and finding forgiveness allows us to forgive and have compassion for others. God bless!!

How important is God in our Lives?

Michael Dubruiel wrote many great books. Michael died a few months ago at the age of 50 and his loss has touched many who knew him in person or through his books. God bless you, Michael.

I am currently reading his book about the Mass titled "The How-To Book of the Mass". On page 61 Michael writes: "We delude ourselves if we think we have no need of God. Without God we would cease to exist this very minute. Yet do we live our lives constantly thanking Him, entreating Him for help? Many times our greatest sin is our feeling of self-sufficiency."

How many years I spent not giving God much thought and I see that I was not alone. We human beings are very weak and we continue to commit the original sin of wanting to be gods. We think we can live without the constant presence of God, our creator, redeemer and friend, as a strong part of our lives. We tend to give him minimal thought if we give him any thought at all. We do not know how impoverished we are without him. We are deaf, dumb and blind. But once we see and hear and think we can no longer live without him. He becomes the source and summit of our every breath, our every thought, our every desire. May God bless us as we journey through this day.

The wealth that God gives us!

There is nothing in life that happens unless God permits it.

Some people have great wealth in material possessions (homes, cars, etc) and some people are very poor and have nothing. This allows those who have much to share with those who have little.

Some people have great wealth in spiritual possessions (God's graces, Gifts of the Holy Spirit, etc) and some people are very poor and have nothing. This allows those who have much to share with those who have little.

Nothing in life happens unless God allows it. We are nothing, but because God is everything we too are everything in his eyes and he desires that we have everything we need. Does God come first in your life?

God bless!!

Feast Day of St. Elizabeth of Portugal

My St. Elizabeth -

St. Elizabeth of Portugal was popularly known as "the peacemaker." She is among the patron saints of peacemakers to whom we can turn in times of war.
