Jesus said: "The Lord, your God, shall you worship and him alone shall you serve." (Mt 4:10)
Creating idols is a perennial enterprise among us blind-hearted human beings. When we set up goals that mirror all that is small and self-centered in the human heart and then sacrifice all our time and energy to them, we run the constant risk of achieving deadness of spirit instead of vibrant life lived in the image of the compassionate Creator.
Genesis 9: 5-6
For your own lifeblood, too, I will demand an accounting: from every animal I will demand it, and from man in regard to his fellow man I will demand an accounting for human life. If anyone sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God has man been made.
Life is holy. God made life holy. We worship God alone and in doing so we will reverence life - all life from conception to natural death.
